Section of 5600 South in Roy closed until Sunday a.m. due to hazmat spill

ROY, Utah, Nov. 2, 2019 (Gephardt Daily) — A Saturday morning traffic accident that turned into a hazmat spill has closed 5600 South in Roy until at least Sunday morning, officials say.

According to information from Roy City Police Department, 5600 South will be closed from 1900 West to Freeway Park Drive, and drivers are advised to find an alternative route to get onto or off of Interstate 15.

Police are asking everyone to avoid the general area.

Utah Department of Transportation tweeted Saturday afternoon that at 9:30 p.m. the detour for I-15 will begin at 650 North in Clearfield to 1900 West, then north to Riverdale Road, then east to Interstate 84.

“Also consider NB US-89 to WB I-84 to I-15,” the tweet said.

The accident occurred at about 10:58 a.m., when a semi truck crashed into a power box.

No injuries were reported.
