MIDVALE, Utah, Nov. 7, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — A semi crash caused major delays on Interstate 15 northbound at 8000 South Wednesday morning.

A news release from the Utah Highway Patrol said a commercial truck was traveling northbound on I-15 at 8000 South in the middle lane just after 9:20 a.m. when traffic slowed down.

“The semi truck was towing a 53-foot large flatbed trailer with a large slab of concrete weighing over 34,000 pounds on top,” the news release said. “The semi truck came to stop and the concrete slid forward ripping the straps off. The concrete slid into the cab area causing damage and crushing the sleeper area.”

There were no injuries to the driver and no other vehicles were involved, the news release said.

The incident has caused major traffic delays in the area. The far right lane is still closed as of 2 p.m. while officials wait for a crane to move the concrete back into place and secure the load with chains.

An investigation of the incident is underway.

Gephardt Daily will have more on this developing story as information is made available.
