WELLINGTON, Utah, Jan. 16, 2019 (Gephardt Daily) — A semi collided with a restaurant in Wellington early Wednesday morning, causing it to collapse and trapping a woman inside.

The incident occurred at Los Jilbertos, on State Route 6 at mile post 246, at approximately 6:30 a.m., according to a news release from the Utah Highway Patrol.

“An eastbound tractor trailer was traveling too fast for existing conditions,” the news release said. “The truck left the roadway where it collided with a restaurant. The restaurant was open for business and occupied by the owners.”

When troopers arrived on scene the male owner was standing outside the collapsed building, and advised his wife was trapped inside.

“They called out to the female subject, who advised she was uninjured,” the news release said. “Officers entered the collapsed building, extracting the female subject.”

The two owners and the driver of the semi were transported to Castleview Hospital in Price with minor injuries.

Traffic on SR-6 in Wellington is being diverted around the scene while power, gas, and tow companies assess the damage caused by the crash.

A Facebook post from Wellington Police Department said eastbound traffic will need to follow 400 West to Railroad Avenue, then to 100 East and south to Ridge Road, then east to SR-6. Westbound traffic will need to take Ridge Road to SR-10.

Electrical service and gas service will be lost to a large portion of Wellington for part of Wednesday, and the elementary school has been closed for the day.

Gephardt Daily will have more on this developing story as information is made available.
