WEBER CANYON, Utah, July 6, 2024 (Gephardt Daily) — After a night of dealing with fireworks shenanigans, Mountain Green firefighters were called out early Friday morning to a semi-truck rollover.
“At 2:30 a.m. we were awakened for this semi rollover, I-84 westbound at Peterson exit 96,” the Mountain Green Fire Protection District posted online Friday.
The driver was possibly ejected, but a language barrier prevented clarification, the agency said. The driver was transported to an area hospital with potential life-threatening injuries.
After initial medical care, crews handled “the leaking hazmat from the semi tractor, mostly transmission oil from the destroyed engine. Cargo assessment revealed ‘foodstuffs’. Fuel tanks stayed intact for a change (these usually leak badly).”
All fire units cleared by 3:30 a.m. so heavy recovery equipment could begin removing the wreckage.
The night before, the department spent the 4th of July evening patrolling fireworks and “shut down a few ‘shows,'” reminding all about Red Flag warnings still in effect for “dry, dry, dry grasses.”
“Around 11 p.m. we responded for a grass fire in Morgan that was started by fireworks thrown into a dumpster in an apartment complex.
“Rockets were shooting out of the dumpster when Morgan County Fire Chief Carrigan arrived, one of which shot across his windshield, and another flew across the river and started a grass fire.” Mountain Green was canceled when Morgan County Fire & EMS responded.
