PROVO, UTAH – September 17, 2015 (Gephardt Daily) – BYU sophomore Colby Jorgensen can’t remember a time when he wasn’t playing football.

He’s taken the field for hundreds of games, participated in thousands of practices… running, jumping, throwing, catching, sweating out two-a-days in Utah’s summer heat … all in the quest to perfect a game he loved more than life itself.

But that all nearly came to an end back in early August, when during a routine play, in a routine practice, while making a tackle Colby had made a thousand times before, something went wrong, desperately wrong.

Jorgensen suddenly found himself strapped to a gurney with coaches and players huddled around. Wheeled to an ambulance, he was rushed to the hospital, where doctors told him the diagnosis was grim.

Colby Jorgensen had fractured his spine. He’d also slipped a disc. He’d lost feeling in over half of his body and whether surgery could restore it was anyone’s guess.

Five weeks later, the 6 ‘7″, 228 pound sophomore, who hails from Timpview High, met with Gephardt Daily on BYU’s campus and talked about the day when his life changed forever; from the realization his days on the gridiron had likely come to an end, to the overwhelming comfort and determination he’s found through his faith, his family, and his team.

Colby shared all the fears and the emotions with Gephardt Daily.
