Sevier County wildfire along SR-24 causing road closures

SEVIER COUNTY, Utah, June 29, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — Crews are battling a wildfire alongside State Route 24, resulting in the closure of several miles of Highway 25.

According to a news release from the Sevier County Sheriff’s Office, Highway 25 is closed from the junction of State Route 119 and SR-24 all the way to the junction of SR-24 and State Route 62.

The fire, which started at about 1 p.m. Friday, is affecting several miles along the highway on both sides.

The news release says no structures are immediately threatened at this time.

Local, state and federal resources are on the ground and some air support is also in the area. Utah Highway Patrol is assisting with the road closure.

Officials are asking the public to stay away from the area so that crews can focus on dealing with the fire.

Anyone traveling through the area who needs an alternative route can take State Route 72 from Interstate 70 to Loa, the release advises. Highway 69 south through Kingston Canyon if another option.
