MILLCREEK, Utah, Nov. 5, 2019 (Gephardt Daily) — A shelter in place has been lifted at two Millcreek schools Tuesday morning after cougar sightings in the area.
Granite School District tweeted at 8 a.m. there was a precautionary shelter in place at Churchill Junior High School at 3450 E. Oakview Drive and Oakridge Elementary at 4325 Jupiter Drive.
“Police presence is significant to ensure student safety,” the tweet said. “We encourage parents to drive students to school this morning and not permit them to walk.”
An hour later, the district tweeted that protocols have been lifted. “Both schools will continue to have indoor activities and recess throughout the day,” the follow-up tweet said. “We would caution parents that since the cougars have not been located, that they provide adult supervision if their children will be walking home from school.”
The district then joked in a tweet: “In all seriousness, the cougars sighted this morning in the Olympus Cove area, are likely residual fans making their way back home from Logan to Provo after the win on Saturday. We wish them well on their journey and hope they will realize that this is Utah Football territory. It is seriously not a place for cougars!”
