OLD IRON TOWN, Utah, Aug. 21, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — A nude man, who forced his way into a Cedar City residence Tuesday afternoon was shot by an elderly homeowner.

The incident was reported at about 12:40 p.m. as a burglary in progress near 4000 S. 17800 West, also known as Old Iron Town.

According to a news release from the Iron County Sheriff’s Office, two elderly homeowners were in the residence when the suspect kicked in the front door and entered the home.

The homeowners ordered the suspect to leave, and when he refused, the homeowner shot him multiple times with a handgun.

The suspect, identified as Christian Holbert, 24, was seriously wounded, but managed to make his way outside where he was soon confronted by sheriff’s deputies. Despite being shot, Holbert remained “non-compliant,” according to the news release.

A Taser was deployed multiple times, officials said, but it had little to no impact on Holbert. Deputies eventually subdued him physically and took him into custody.

Holbert was treated on scene by Gold Cross Ambulance and then was transported by Life Flight to Dixie Regional Medical Center, where he was in serious but stable condition.

The sheriff’s office said Holbert has yet to be formally charged.

The exact sequence of events leading to Holbert’s shooting is still under investigation.

Gephardt Daily will update this story as more information becomes available.
