MARYSVALE, Utah, July 6, 2024 (Gephardt Daily) — The Silver King Fire, burning 8 miles from Maryvale in Piute County, now stands at 686 acres.
It was first reported to Richfield Dispatch at 1:11 p.m. Friday, and was estimated to be 2 acres.
Utah Fire Info says the fire is “burning in very steep and rugged terrain with limited accessibility. Currently there is one hot shot crew, four engines and aircraft on scene, with more resources ordered and en route to the incident.
“Firefighters were able to hold the fire west of the 113-road (Kimberly Road) last night and provide structure protection for the historic Silver King Mine in the Old Kimberly Mining District.
“Today crews will be looking for opportunity to implement future fireline where possible, and scouting areas for safe access.”
A Red Flag Warning is in place today due to hot, dry and windy conditions with low relative humidity.
“The cause of this fire is unknown and currently under investigation,” the Utah Fire Info statement says.
“Please stay out of the area to provide safety for the public and all firefighting resources.”
