Man crashes stolen truck in Salt Lake City, flees on foot from officers

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, May 19, 2017 (Gephardt Daily) — Police have arrested a man in Salt Lake City who they say ran a stolen truck into a cement barrier and attempted to flee on foot from officers Thursday morning.

A man was loading his flatbed truck at 200 S. Navajo St. just after 11 a.m. when the suspect, later identified as Damian Bane, 19, got in and drove away in the truck, according to a news release from the Salt Lake City Police Department.

Witnesses followed the suspect to 1690 W. 300 South, where he attempted to back the truck into them, the news release said. The suspect ran the truck into a cement barrier and attempted to flee on foot, but was captured by officers.

According to a probable cause statement from Salt Lake County Sheriff’s Office, the suspect also became violent when he was being loaded into a police vehicle, kicking two officers, one in the chin and the other in the waist area.

Officers booked Bane into jail for vehicle theft, assault on a police officer, aggravated assault, fleeing, false information and vandalism.
