SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, March 18, 2016 (Gephardt Daily) — The Salt Palace Convention Center is being transformed into a spectacle of lights, projection, costumes, props, sound and special effects for a conference on theater technology this weekend.

USITT’s 2016 Annual Conference & Stage Expo is in downtown Salt Lake City March 16 through 19, bringing 5,500 members of the production industry, according to a news release.

USITT 2016 is the United States Institute for Theatre Technology’s biggest event of the
year. It showcases the world of live entertainment design and technology with 260
exhibitors of the latest tools to create live shows and 250‐plus presentations,
demonstrations, and celebrations of work by top artists in the field.

This is the first time Salt Lake will host a production event of this size. The show’s
estimated economic impact is more than $5 million, with attendees filling five hotels in
downtown Salt Lake.

The four‐day event also brings theatrical designers, including Royal Shakespeare
Company sound designer John Leonard, Broadway set designer Anna Louizos, and
multimedia artist Tupac Martir, who was the keynote presenter.

Stage Expo runs 11 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. March 17 and 18, and 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. March 19.
