SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, June 20, 2024 (Gephardt Daily) — Officers with the Salt Lake City Police Department’s Central Patrol Division arrested a 54-year-old man, seizing nearly 450 fentanyl pills and over $700 in cash.

The investigation started at 10:15 p.m. Tuesday when dispatch received information about an alleged drug problem at an apartment complex, located at 120 South 300 East, according to Thursday’s departmental press release.

Officers arrived and could smell burning synthetic drugs coming from a specific apartment unit, police said.

Several people were heard inside the apartment, but no one answered the door when officers knocked.

“As officers continued their investigation, 54-year-old Joshua Seidman returned to the apartment and opened the door. Officers saw several people inside the apartment unit, saw drugs and drug paraphernalia, and the smell of burning drugs got even stronger once Seidman opened the door.”

The apartment was secured and a search warrant obtained. “During the search, officers found nearly 450 fentanyl pills, methamphetamine, heroin, and spice.”

The press release did not include an estimate of street values, but according to various websites, including the DEA, depending on purity and demand, 450 fentanyl pills can start at $4,500, an ounce of meth $2,000 and $200 a gram for heroin.

Seidman, the apartment’s tenant, was booked into the Salt Lake County Metro Jail on suspicion of one count of possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute and one count of use or possession of drug paraphernalia.
