SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, Sept. 24, 2024 (Gephardt Daily) — Police are on the scene of a six-car chain-reaction collision Tuesday that sent one motorist to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The crash was dispatched at 6:21 p.m. at the intersection of 1700 South 300 West, according to the Salt Lake City Police Department.

The Salt Lake City Fire Department and Gold Cross Ambulance arrived on the scene and took a passenger to the hospital in critical condition.

All drivers remained on scene and are cooperating with the investigation, police said.

“Based on the preliminary investigation five vehicles were stopped for a red light at 300 West and 1700 South. A small SUV did not slow down and crashed into the back of a car, causing a chain reaction crash.”

Because of the severity of the injuries, the on-duty watch commander requested the help of the Collision Analysis & Reconstruction (CAR) Team and SLCPD Crime Lab technicians and 1700 South is closed between 200 West and 300 West.
