SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, Nov. 18, 2024 (Gephardt Daily) — The Salt Lake City Police Department has released more information about two homicide investigations that began Friday.
The first investigation began at 11:41 p.m. Officers responded to the area of 1045 E. 2100 South, in the city’s Sugar House neighborhood. They found one person deceased and one person with “critical but stable injuries,” says a SLCPD PR statement released at the time.
The Monday update from the Salt Lake City Police Department says the man who died was 26-year-old Oscar Moreno.
“After conducting multiple interviews with involved parties and witnesses, detectives released all individuals detained as part of the investigation.”
In the second case, called in to dispatch about 18 minutes after the first, police were dispatched to the Central City neighborhood regarding a shooting near 800 South and Park Street, north of Liberty Park.
“Officers arrived and found a 21-year-old man with critical injuries,” the initial news release from Salt Lake City Police‘s public relations department says.
“The 21-year-old man died on scene, despite lifesaving efforts by first responders. Based on the preliminary investigation, the 21-year-old man and a 53-year-old man were outside when a shooting occurred.”
The new police statement identifies the 21-year-old man who died as Maxwell Rodgers. The 53-year-old man, now identified as Charlie Poulsen, was located, deceased, after a SWAT response to his building.
“Detectives believe, based on the available information at this time, that Poulsen shot Rodgers, went back into his (Poulsen’s) apartment, and then died by suicide,” the police update says.
“Both cases remain under investigation by the SLCPD’s Homicide Squad,” the police statement says. “Anyone with information about these cases, is asked to call 801-799-3000.”
