4 dead in San Juan County plane crash

SAN JUAN COUNTY, Utah, Feb. 23, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — A small airplane that was reported missing over San Juan County on Thursday has been located, sheriff’s officials said.

The plane was found in the eastern part of the county at about 5 p.m. Friday, the San Juan County Sheriff’s Office said in a post on Facebook.

The FAA will be handling the investigation into the crash.

According to station KDVR in Grand Junction, Colo., the Civil Air Patrol said none of the four people on board survived.

The Piper Lance, which had flown out of Alberta, Canada, was forced by inclement weather to land in Grand Junction in western Colorado on Thursday, KDVR reported.

The aircraft, owned by Kaupp Family Farms, went missing after leaving Grand Junction on Friday morning with four people on board.

Kaupp Family Farms posted on Facebook:

“MISSING PERSONS- On February 22nd my fathers plane went missing after leaving Grand Junction Regional Airport around 10 am on his way to Albuquerque, New Mexico.”

It included the type of plane and its call numbers.

After the aircraft was located later Friday, the Kaupp family posted:

“It is with a heavy heart that I must announce that the plane has been located with no survivors. I want to tell everyone how much I appreciate the sharing, good wishes and all the condolences given over today. There’s still a lot of good in this very scary world. In the future I will talk about how great the four people that we lost were to everyone that knew them, but for now we are going to grieve. Thank you everybody”
