LOGAN, Utah, June 4, 2019 (Gephardt Daily) — A Smithfield man has been sentenced to prison after pleading guilty to a first-degree felony.

Tyler Ray Miles, 49, had pleaded guilty to aggravated sexual abuse of a child, a first-degree felony. In exchange for the plea, a second identical charge was dismissed.

Miles was charged on Jan. 2, 2018. The case involved the molestation of a 9-year-old girl with whom Miles held a position of trust.

According to a report from Cache Valley Daily, Miles told investigators he thought the child — with whom he was well-acquainted — was an older woman, claiming he was intoxicated and high on meth at the time of the crime.

Judge Kevin Allen gave Miles the maximum sentence of six years to life in prison.
