SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, March 21, 2019 (Gephardt Daily) — The Smith’s corporate office in Salt Lake City was cleared Thursday afternoon after a former employee allegedly made a “vague threat,” officials said.

The incident occurred at approximately 2 p.m. at the corporate office at 1550 S. Redwood Rd.

Detective Michael Ruff with the Salt Lake City Police Department told Gephardt Daily the man made a “vague threat,” but further details of the nature of that threat have not been released.

“The incident at 1550 S. Redwood Road was not an active shooter,” said a tweet from the SLCPD. “As a precautionary measure we cleared the building at the request of Smiths. The building has been cleared and employees have been allowed to return to work.”

Ruff said officials have now made contact with the suspect, but it’s not clear at this stage if he has been taken into custody.

Gephardt Daily will have more on this developing story as information is made available.

  1. My poor sister was in the building when this happened. As far as anyone in that building knew, there was someone in the building with a gun. My sister was texting our family telling us she loved us. I’m glad it was nothing more than a threat but for the people hiding in closets in the building, it was very scary.
