SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, June 7, 2024 (Gephardt Daily) — The population at Utah’s Hogle Zoo keeps on growing.
Snow leopard Babs delivered two healthy cubs Tuesday morning, zoo officials announced Friday on social media. The first cub was born about 6:40 a.m., with the second following around 7:55 a.m., the post says.
“Babs is already showing great maternal skills as a first-time mom, grooming and snuggling around both cubs,” the post says. “We’re so proud!
“Our animal care teams have observed the cubs moving around and have heard cries, which are great signs during these early stages. They will continue to monitor the trio to observe cub developments.”
Babs and the cubs will not yet be on display at the zoo, as they need time to safely and comfortably adapt to their new environment, zoo officials said.
“The birth of these two cubs is an important step toward conserving the elusive and vulnerable snow leopard species. We’re so proud to be a part of the Association of Zoos and Aquariums Snow Leopard SSP and be able to contribute to a genetically diverse snow leopard population,” the post says.
The snow leopard cubs arrived less than a week after the zoo welcomed a new member to its western lowland gorilla troop.
