bDIAMOND FORK CANYON, Utah, Oct. 27, 2019 (Gephardt Daily) — An early blast of winter is proving to be a mixed-bag for firefighters working the Diamond Fork Fire in Utah County.
While the wet sloppy weather is knocking the blaze down, crews are still fighting the fire in rough terrain. Not only is snow beginning to fall, temperatures are bitter cold.
Sunday morning, Utah Fire Info tweeted: “#DiamondFire fire personnel have mapped the fire at 152 acres, crews will be putting in hand-line today. Snow is beginning to accumulate. Safety concerns hypothermia, slick conditions.”
The fire was first reported just after 2 p.m. Saturday, forcing the evacuation of dozens of hunters, campers and hikers who were in the high country when the blaze broke out.
As the winds grew in intensity the fire began to run and was initially estimated at 300 acres as nightfall approached.
At about 7 p.m., the Utah County Sheriff’s Office posted on Facebook that “(The fire) is in the hands of Uintah-Wasatch-Cache National Forest officials … UCSO SAR helped make sure no people were in immediate danger. Fifth Water Hot Springs area was evacuated as a precaution.”
