SOUTH JORDAN, Utah, Jan. 5, 2025 (Gephardt Daily) — A 19-year-old man was arrested Saturday after allegedly telling police he robbed two gas stations at knifepoint because he wanted money to move out of his parents’ house.

Jaxon Gary Ewell was arrested for investigation of:

  • Two counts of aggravated robbery, a first-degree felony
  • Two counts of aggravated assault, a third-degree felony
  • Fail to stop at command of law enforcement, a class A misdemeanor
  • Disorderly conduct, an infraction

Arrest documents filed by an officer of the South Jordan Police Department say that a report came in of a robbery.

“Another individual called in, reporting the suspect was heading eastbound towards Bangerter,” the police report continues.

“Officers flooded the scene and spotted the suspect on the Canal Trail. Initially, the suspect was told to stop running, which he failed to do and ignored officers’ commands. Eventually the suspect complied and was ordered to turn around and stay still. Officers approached the suspect and I placed him into handcuffs without incident,” the statement says.

“Prior to me placing the suspect into custody the suspect dropped the knife when officers told him to.”

Ewell was transported to the police station for questioning. Post Miranda, he agreed to speak, the statement says.

“The suspect admitted to robbing two gas stations earlier that day. He described entering the stores with a knife, demanding money, and receiving cash in a garbage bag. He mentioned he was wearing a mask to conceal his identity. The suspect also stated he had been influenced by a friend … who had committed similar robberies.”

Ewell told officers of “his desire to make money to leave his parents’ house. He mentioned his parents had taken away his phone, which contributed to his frustration and decision to commit the robberies.”

Ewell also said he had planned to rob a jewelry store, the statement says.

“(Jaxon) asked me multiple questions on (what) jail was like and how he was excited to go. (Jaxon) said going to jail was on his bucket list. (Jaxon) said it was going to be fun being in jail.”

“The suspect was cooperative throughout the process and provided his mother’s contact information. He requested that his parents be informed of his situation but did not want them to visit him.

“The suspect also mentioned his various allergies and requested that the jail be informed of his dietary restrictions.”

Ewell was ordered held without bail.
