WASHINGTON, D.C., March 1, 2017 (Gephardt Daily) — Former Utah Governor Jon Huntsman, Jr., is in talks to become the next U.S. ambassador to Russia, according to a report from CNN.
Citing an unnamed senior administration official, CNN said Huntsman spoke with Secretary of State Rex Tillerson last week. In addition, a source close to Huntsman reportedly told CNN the former governor (2005-2009) has been in touch with President Donald Trump’s top advisers, and possibly the president himself.
Huntsman is an experienced ambassador, having served in Singapore (1992-1993) and China (2009-2011).
It is not clear whether Huntsman is the only person being considered for the post.
