South Jordan police apprehend multi-state fraud suspects with $215K in Walmart gift cards

SOUTH JORDAN, Utah, June 6, 2019 (Gephardt Daily) — Officers of the South Jordan Police Department have apprehended three suspects in a multi-state fraud case involving stolen credit cards and the purchase of Walmart gift cards.

The three were found with nearly 5,000 gift cards with a value of $215,000, a statement from the SJPD says.

“On June 5, 2019, the South Jordan Police Department received a report of a fraud in progress from Asset Protection personnel at Walmart located at 3590 W. South Jordan Parkway,” the statement says.

“The associate recognized three individuals suspected in a multi-state fraud ring involving the fraudulent use of stolen credit cards and gift cards in Walmart stores across the United States.”

Responding officers found the suspect’s vehicle and stopped it. An eventual search led to the recovery of the cards.

“All three suspects were arrested booked into the Salt Lake County Adult Detention center on multiple felony 2 counts of unlawful acquisition, possession, transfer of financial Cards,” the SJPD statement says.

“Due to this group traveling throughout the State of Utah and the United States, the case has been turned over to the Utah Attorney General’s Office for further investigation.”
