TOOELE COUNTY, Utah, June 9, 2025 (Gephardt Daily) — Firefighters from multiple agencies are on the scene of Utah’s newest wildfire.
According to the North Tooele Fire District, crews were dispatched at 8:44 p.m. Monday to the South Mountain Fire, burning on private land west of Stockton in Tooele County,
By 9:44 p.m., the blaze had burned more than 200 acres and could be seen across the vast expanses of Tooele County.
Crews from North Tooele, Grantsville, Tooele City, Tooele County and Stockton fire departments were joined by personnel from the Bureau of Land Management and the Utah Department of Natural Resources in efforts to contain the fire.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
North Tooele Fire District said the only structure immediately threatened was an unmanned communications tower on South Mountain.
The public is being urged not to travel toward the fire area, as roads are needed for emergency vehicles entering and leaving the scene.
