TOOELE COUNTY, Utah, June 9, 2026 (Gephardt Daily) — Tooele County’s South Mountain Fire, estimated at 200 acres Monday night, has grown to an estimated 1,000 to 2,000 acres Tuesday morning.
It remains at zero percent contained, and wind gusts are up to 55mph are expected, according to information from Utah Fire Info.
“A cold front could increase fire activity and create challenging conditions. Please avoid the area and remember flying drones over or near wildfires are illegal.”
On Monday night, crews from North Tooele, Grantsville, Tooele City, Tooele County and Stockton fire departments were joined by personnel from the Bureau of Land Management and the Utah Department of Natural Resources in efforts to contain the fire.
The fire is believed to be human caused. Fire crews from multiple agencies have been at the scene overnight, and more resources are expected Tuesday.
