SOUTH SALT LAKE, Utah, July 1, 2019 (Gephardt Daily) — Police are looking for a male driver who allegedly caused a crash, fled the scene, and caused another crash Monday evening.

South Salt Lake Police Sgt. Matt Oehler said officers were able to take two women passengers into custody shortly before 8 p.m., when they and the driver ran from the “older Mitsubishi passenger car” at 2700 S. State St.

The driver, however, managed to evade the officers.

“We have a potential I.D. for the driver,” Oehler told Gephardt Daily, “and we expect to have him in custody soon.”

It wasn’t yet known why the driver fled the scene of the first crash.

Oehler said the first car that was struck by the suspect vehicle rolled onto its top and had “substantial damage.” The second car that was hit “had its front end totaled.”

Two people were in one car and three in the other, Oehler said. They all had minor injuries, but only two were transported to the hospital.

Gephardt Daily will update this story as more information becomes available.
