SPRINGVILLE, Utah, June 15, 2024 (Gephardt Daily) — A Springville family is displaced following a fire that started Thursday night, reignited early Friday morning and left the home a total loss.

Crews from several agencies responded about 8:25 p.m. Thursday to a fire that started in the yard, spread to the deck and then to the house, fire officials said.

Neighbors used fire extinguishers and garden hoses in an attempt to stop the backyard fire before crews arrived, neighbor Braden Storrs writes on a GoFundMe page to assist the homeowners.

“But the fire grew too quickly. The police arrived and ordered us away,” the post says. “Our next door neighbor’s home is sadly a total loss. It is a massive loss for the Hernandez family. The one positive is that everyone came out of this safe and uninjured.”

Firefighters extinguished the fire, but it reignited about 1:20 a.m. Friday and again became fully engulfed.

“The family has been displaced and has lost nearly everything they owned. While insurance should help eventually, that’s often a long process. Please consider donating what you are able to help support the Hernandez Family as they go through this transition period,” Storrs writes.
