SALT LAKE COUNTY, Utah, May 2, 2019 (Gephardt Daily) — A South Salt Lake woman is facing a murder charge after she allegedly tried to poison her boyfriend with Drano. The charge will be amended to attempted murder, since the victim survived.

A probable cause statement from Salt Lake County said Elle Weissman, 43, currently is facing the charge of murder, which is a second-degree felony, as well as surreptitious administering of a certain substance, also a second-degree felony.

Officials were dispatched to an Urgent Care facility Monday at approximately 8:40 p.m. in the area of 2100 South and Redwood Road in regards to a 50-year-old man that had consumed Drano, said a news release from South Salt Lake Police Department.

“The suspect, Elle Weissman, stated that she had given her live-in boyfriend a spoonful of Drano,” the probable cause statement said. “Elle stated that her intention was to give her boyfriend Drano so that he would go into ‘eternal sleep.’ Elle stated that by eternal sleep, she meant death.”

She knew that Drano, a drain cleaner, could kill him, and that was her intention, the statement said.

“The victim was partially asleep when Elle gave him the Drano,” the statement went on. “Elle said her boyfriend thought she was giving him his medicine.”

The victim did survive and is still hospitalized, the news release said.

The case will be screened by the Salt Lake County District Attorney’s Office for
