ST. GEORGE, Utah, Feb. 22, 2019 (Gephardt Daily) — A 72-year-old man has been booked into the Purgatory Correctional Facility on multiple charges of crimes against a child.
John B. Archer was booked on suspicion of three counts of aggravated sexual abuse of a child, a first-degree felony.
A probable cause statement filed Thursday in 5th District Court states that the investigation began on Oct. 22 of last year, and involved a juvenile girl. The girl, not identified by name in court papers, reported that Archer put his hands under her clothing and rubbed her skin on multiple private areas of her body.
The girl said that Archer — who held a position of trust with the family — had been doing the same kind of thing to her for at least a couple years.
“Other witnesses were interviewed during the course of this investigation that provided corroborating details showing a pattern of behavior consistent with (the girl’s) disclosure,” says the statement, filed by an officer of the St. George Police Department.
The probable cause statement says Archer declined to talk to police other than to say he had no recollection of the crimes of which he has been accused.
Archer is being held in lieu of posting a cash-only $75,000 bail.
A further search of court records shows that in 1989, he was found guilty of expired registration/failure to register as a sex offender.
