St. George man arrested after being ID’d as suspect in Washington City bank robbery

WASHINGTON CITY, Utah, Feb. 23, 2019 (Gephardt Daily) — A suspect wanted in connection with a bank robbery on Thursday was taken into custody Friday after Washington City Police Department issued a news release asking for the public’s help in identifying the man in surveillance photos.

Michael Roper, 45, of St. George, was arrested without incident and booked into Purgatory Correctional Facility, WCPD said in a Facebook post Friday.

Roper is suspected of robbing Chartway Federal Credit Union, at 1025 W. Red Cliffs Drive, on Thursday afternoon.

According to booking information, he is facing a second-degree felony charge for robbery.

“The Washington City Police Department would like to thank the media outlets that promptly reported this incident as well as the citizens in the community that have assisted with this case,” the Friday news release said. “We also wish to express our appreciation to the FBI, DEA, Washington County Drug Task Force, and our Consolidated Dispatch Center who assisted with this case.”
