WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah, Aug. 12, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — One man is in custody and five other people are being interviewed by officials following a stabbing in West Valley City Sunday morning.

West Valley City Police Lt. Amy Maurer said officials received the report of the stabbing in the area of 1755 W. Lake Park Drive (2565 South) at approximately 9:30 a.m.

“We received a call from the victim who said he was stabbed in the leg,” Maurer said. “Officers got in the area and located the victim, and the vehicle he was in, started to obtain some basic information. We got a basic description of an apartment, which led officers over to the address.”

Maurer said when officers were arriving in the area of the apartment at which the stabbing may have occurred, a man matching the description of one of the suspects was seen, fleeing southbound on foot.

“After further interviewing of the involved parties and the victim, we learned that potentially there are anything from five to six suspects, so we started doing area checks throughout the apartments and were able to locate the man who ran from us originally and he was taken into custody,” Maurer said.

She said officers then went to do a welfare check on one of the apartments, following additional information given to officials, and on going into the apartment, five other people were located that are being questioned.

The victim is in stable condition, officials said.

Gephardt Daily will have more on this developing story as information is made available.
