SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, May 11, 2016 (Gephardt Daily) — The Salt Lake City Police Department has a suspect in custody after a victim was stabbed in Pioneer Park Tuesday night.

Officials said in a prepared statement the incident began at approximately 11:40 p.m. when SLCPD bike officers cleared a group of people from the park, at 350 S. 300 West, for violating park curfew.

Suspect Tewelde B. Mekonen, 41, was walking out of the park with the 39-year-old male victim and another person.

“For unknown reasons, Tewelde began stabbing the victim,” the statement said. “Officers quickly arrested Tewelde, who still had the knife on his person. The victim was transported to a local hospital condition with a large laceration to his left leg and puncture wound to his right torso, both non-life threatening injuries.”
