DAVIS COUNTY, Utah, Oct. 16, 2024 (Gephardt Daily) — The Utah Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal accident on Interstate 15 in Davis County.
UHP Agent Tara Stump told Gephardt Daily a male driver was struck and killed at about 7:30 p.m. Wednesday after stepping outside of his pickup truck, which had stalled in the southbound HOV lane near milepost 334 in Clearfield.
According to Stump, the pickup’s safety lights malfunctioned once the vehicle stalled.
Two approaching drivers swerved to avoid the truck, one to the right, the other to the left. The vehicle that swerved to the left hit the pickup truck driver as he stood on the shoulder.
“He was pronounced dead on scene,” Stump said. “No other injuries were reported.”
The southbound lanes on I-15 were expected to be closed until midnight with drivers being forced to exit the highway at 700 South.
Gephardt Daily will update this story as more information becomes available.
