CARBON COUNTY, Utah, April 17, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — A state of emergency has been declared in Carbon County after a water main break affecting 1,500 customers, officials said.
Crews have been working since Friday evening to fix “numerous critical leaks to the culinary water system” for the unincorporated Carbon County area and Wellington City, according to a news release from the Carbon County Sheriff’s Office.
The affected residents are either experiencing reduced water pressure or aren’t able to use water in their homes, the news release said.
“The District has enlisted the help of Price City in trying to provide emergency interconnections to the District’s system and the City has responded generously,” the news release added.
“The District is asking all its customers to curtail their water use as much as possible to help the system not run out of water over the next few days.”
Price River Water Improvement District (PRWID) crews are working around the clock, a follow-up news release said.
“Carbon County, along with Wellington City, has signed a Local State of Disaster Declaration for this event. At this time repairs are estimated to take about 48 more hours.”
The cause of the break is not known at this time.
The Sheriff’s Office posted Tuesday morning on Facebook that PRWID in Price City has offered water to those who need it. Individuals can take five-gallon jugs or containers to Pioneer Park at 100 E. 550 North in Price and fill them there.
In addition, owners of livestock who wish to fill tanks can go to Price City Domes at 432 W. 600 South and fill there between the hours of 7 a.m. and 4 p.m., officials said. They have a two-inch line hookup.
PRWID also has a water haul station in Wellington for larger users, at 5382 E. Washer Plant Road.
