SPRINGDALE, Utah, March 3, 2019 (Gephardt Daily) — State Route 9 through Zion National Park remains closed due to an “active rock slide,” officials said Sunday.

“A section of a retaining wall has failed and that section of road is not safe for cars until it is repaired. This will be a long term closure,” said a tweet from the park Sunday morning.

A follow up tweet said SR-9, also called the Mount Carmel Highway, is closed from the East Entrance to Canyon Junction. Canyon Overlook and East Rim Trails are not accessible at this time. The Scenic Drive is currently open.

The road was initially closed Saturday evening.

Gephardt Daily will have more on this developing story as information is made available.
