DRAPER, Utah, May 31, 2021 (Gephardt Daily) — State Street near 11500 South in Draper was closed Monday afternoon because of a commercial fire.

Multiple agencies responded to the blaze.

“Draper City Fire is on scene of a large commercial structure fire at Lighting Design 11538 S. State St., with units from Sandy, South Jordan, UFA, and West Jordan fire,” a Draper Fire Department statement says.

The fire took about 45 minutes to knock down, Draper Fire Chief Clint Smith told Gephardt Daily a few hours later.

“The initial call came in at 3:15, Smith said. “We arrived to find heavy smoke and flames coming from the roof of the structure, which was a detached warehouse behind Lighting Design. It contained lighting and electronic equipment.”

Crews fought the fire from the roof, and were able to make entry, Smith said.

“There were no injuries,” he said. “He can’t estimate the damage because we don’t know everything that was inside.”

Smith said that with temperatures rising, crews need to be careful to remain hydrated and to take breaks, which is why additional crews may be called in during warm months.
