SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, Jan. 16, 2016 (Gephardt Daily) — An attempt to arrest a suspected car thief led to some high drama in the Salt Lake Valley late Friday night.

According to West Valley City Police officer Dalan Taylor, officers were tailing a stolen car when the suspect sped off.

“When the car went mobile, officers tried spikes to stop the vehicle, but they were unsuccessful,” Taylor said. “They then followed the suspect into Salt Lake where he got out of vehicle and ran onto a family friend’s house.”

Taylor said there were several people in the home, including children.

“The situation was difficult as the mother of the children was at work, so we waited until she arrived before getting permission to enter the home,” Taylor said.

“Once she arrived, we were able to get the children out before the suspect exited the home on his own.”

Officers from West Valley, Salt Lake City Police and the Metro Gang Unit assisted in arresting 22-year-old Jonathan Padilla-Lopez. He has been booked into the Salt Lake County Jail on multiple felony charges including failure to stop at the command of an officer and possession of a stolen vehicle.
