COTTONWOOD HEIGHTS, Utah, Dec. 3, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — Officers recovered “bags” of stolen property after two vehicle burglary suspects were taken into custody in Cottonwood Heights Monday.

According to probable cause statements from the 3rd District Court in Salt Lake City, Brody Winkler, 24, and David James Tuscic, 36, were booked into Salt Lake County Jail Monday afternoon.

Winkler is facing charges of second-degree felony receiving or transferring a stolen vehicle, two counts of third-degree felony theft by receiving stolen property, one count of third-degree felony possession or use of a controlled substance, two counts of misdemeanor A burglary of a vehicle, one count of misdemeanor A failure to stop at command of law enforcement and one count of misdemeanor B failure to disclose identity.

Tuscic is facing charges of two counts of misdemeanor A burglary of a vehicle.

The probable cause statement for Winkler and Tuscic said the latter told detectives that the former picked him up from his house in West Valley at approximately midnight on Sunday and they committed several vehicle burglaries between West Valley City and Cottonwood Heights.

“David confessed to helping Brody commit the vehicle burglaries as well as carrying the bags of stolen items,” the probable cause statement said.

“Brody was caught on video on at least one of these burglaries, and is a suspect in many more. The vehicle that Brody was driving during the burglaries was found to be a stolen vehicle. David stated that he has seen Brody driving the vehicle for approximately one week.”

The vehicle was reported stolen on Nov. 27.

“Inside the vehicle were numerous stolen items, as well as a stolen laptop computer,” the statement said. “David stated that Brody brought him the stolen computer to fix, but David stated that he could not fix it because it was locked. During the burglaries, Brody was wearing a Utah Department of Corrections jacket. This jacket was stolen out of a vehicle burglary in Sandy.”

Winkler was told to stop by officers and he fled the area on foot; once located he refused to initially give his name, the statement said. Tuscic did not flee.

Winkler’s bail has been set at $15,000, Tuscic’s at $1,950.
