Student at Logan residential treatment center accused of crimes against younger resident

LOGAN, Utah, Feb. 13, 2019 (Gephardt Daily) — An 18-year-old student attending the Logan River Academy was arrested Friday after being accused of abusing a younger student.

Rachael Manard was booked on five counts of forcible sexual abuse, a second-degree felony, after a 15-year-old girl reported that Manard touched her inappropriately on multiple occasions.

A Logan City Police official said the girl accused Manard of grabbing her breasts and genitals, sometimes more than once in a day.

Manard was released to school administrators’ with the promise she would be monitored 24 hours a day.

Logan River Academy is a residential treatment center where students typically reside year round. The school’s website says it “has helped shape a brighter path for hundreds of 12-18 year olds who were having difficulties in their homes, communities, and schools.”

Manard’s preliminary hearing is set for Feb. 19.
