OGDEN, UTAH – June 26, 2015 (Gephardt Daily) – Weber County Sheriff’s Office said deputies were involved in a short pursuit in Washington Terrace, Ogden, while responding on a disturbance call, on Wednesday. An attendant at the toll road located at 5919 S. Adams Ave. Parkway Toll Road called 911 at 10:42 p.m. to report there was a male and female fighting inside a vehicle. The caller reported it appeared the female was trying to get away from the male.

The first arriving deputy located the vehicle as it was leaving the scene northbound on Adams Ave. Parkway. The deputy attempted to pull the car over but it fled into South Ogden. The deputy pursued the car, losing sight of it momentarily when the deputy stopped for the red light at Washington Blvd.

The deputy later located the vehicle on the north end of Adams Ave. Parkway where it dead-ends. The car had gone off the roadway, down an embankment, and had crashed into some trees.

Deputies discovered the female outside of the vehicle, but the male fled the scene on foot. The female was uninjured and claimed the male had been holding her against her will. She identified the suspect as Preston Michael Cowlishaw, 25, of West Valley City. She told deputies Cowlishaw was a family acquaintance. She said he picked her up earlier in the evening in Salt Lake and had been driving her around for several hours. She said Cowlishaw detained her against her will, threatened her, wouldn’t let her use her cell phone, and made sexual advances toward her.

Deputies, a K-9 unit, along with officers from other agencies searched the area for Cowlishaw but he could not be located. During the investigation, it was discovered the car that Cowlishaw was driving had been reported stolen out of Salt Lake.

The victim was arrested on multiple, outstanding warrants, one of which was a felony. She was booked into the Weber County Jail.

On the evening of Thursday, June 25, 2015, deputies were notified by South Salt Lake Police that they had Cowlishaw in custody. A deputy responded down and transported Cowlishaw back to the Weber County Sheriff’s Office.

Cowlishaw was interviewed by detectives but he was uncooperative at the time. Cowlishaw was arrested and booked into the Weber County jail on the charges of possession of a stolen vehicle, a second degree felony, kidnapping, a second degree felony, evading by vehicle, a third degree felony, reckless driving, driving on a suspended license, and evading by foot, all misdemeanors.
