SANDY, UTAH – September 18, 2015 (Gephardt Daily) – The man wanted for sexually assaulting a woman near a Sandy TRAX station has been arrested in Sanpete County.

Sandy police say William Marroquin-Martinez, 19, was taken into custody after being recognized from reports in the local media.

Investigators had been searching for Martinez since he was identified on surveillance video as the suspect in the August 25, 2015 sexual assault of a female TRAX rider.

According to police, Martinez followed the victim as she departed one of the trains and assaulted her on a paved path near the 9000 South platform. Investigators say the victim escaped after screaming and fighting back.

Marroquin-Martinez has been booked into the Salt Lake County Jail on suspicion of forcible sexual abuse.

The case will be submitted to the Salt Lake County District Attorney’s Office to be screened for formal charges.
