Suspect arrested in shooting death of West Valley City 14-year-old

WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah, Aug. 10, 2017 (Gephardt Daily) — West Valley City police have made an arrest in the Aug. 2 shooting death of 14-year-old Romeo Rodriguez.

According to a statement released by West Valley Police Department, Frank Tsinnijinne, 18, was taken into custody Wednesday and booked into the Salt Lake County Jail on a first degree felony murder charge. 

Investigators say Tsinnijinne shot Rodriguez in the face during an apparent gang confrontation near 1330 W. Rothchild Drive about 3:15 a.m. 

Rodriguez was driven by friends to Pioneer Valley Hospital where he was found to be in extremely critical condition. He was then transferred by medical helicopter to Primary Children’s Hospital in Salt Lake City where he passed away several hours later.  

Investigators have yet to establish a motive in the shooting.
