Suspect charged with attempted homicide in shooting at West Valley City motel

WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah, Nov. 18, 2017 (Gephardt Daily) — A suspect has been arrested in the shooting of a man Tuesday morning in the La Quinta Inn, at 3540 S. 2200 West.

Robert Bradley Young was booked into Salt Lake County Jail on charges of attempted criminal homicide, a first-degree felony; discharge of a firearm, a first-degree felony; possession of a firearm by a restricted person, a third-degree felony; and obstruction of justice, a second-degree felony.

According to the probable cause statement, West Valley City police responded to a report that a customer at the motel went to the front desk and said he had been shot. The victim, whose name has not been released, was transported to Intermountain Medical Center in critical condition with a gunshot wound.

The victim told officers that Young held a gun to his head and threatened to kill him. When the victim moved, Young shot him in the chest, the statement says.

After being read his Miranda rights, the statement says, Young admitted to being present at the shooting and discarding the firearm afterward.

Young is restricted from possessing a gun because of a previous felony drug conviction.
