OGDEN, Utah, March 22, 2019 (Gephardt Daily) — An Ogden Police detective’s investigation of a fraudulent $3.08 purchase has led to the arrest of the main suspect in a 2012 California homicide.

Cody James Tripp, 33, was taken into custody on Wednesday, and is being held in the Weber County Jail without bail, pending extradition.

Tripp is the main suspect in the death of Jordan Vigil, 29, who was found dead in Tripp’s Castro Valley, Calif., residence on May 14, 2012.

Local police declined to share the manner of VIgil’s death, but told local news outlets that a large amount of blood was found at the scene.

Nearly seven years after the murder, Tripp is still listed as one of Alameda County Sheriff Department’s “Most Wanted,” but officials were unaware of his whereabouts.

That is, until Ogden Police Department Detective Rachael Walker was assigned to the case of a $3.08 purchase for a can of Red Bull at an Ogden business, made with a credit card stolen from a Sunset man who had hired movers.

The moving company provided immigration documents for workers it used on the Sunset job, and one card looked like a fake. Several leads were pursued, and one led to a Salt Lake City apartment and Tripp.

More research led to the realization that Tripp was a wanted homicide suspect.

Gephardt Daily will have more on this story as information becomes available.
