SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, Nov. 28, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — A suspect is in custody following an alleged aggravated assault at a Salt Lake City tire store Tuesday morning.

Officers booked Alan Covington, 50, into jail for two counts of aggravated assault, the Salt Lake City Police Department said in a news release.

The incident occurred at Lopez Tires at 1647 S. Main St. just after 9:35 a.m., the news release said.

“A man walked into Lopez Tires carrying a square metal pipe and stated, ‘I’m going to kill someone,'” the news release said. “He then proceeded to start swinging it at the men inside who then fled out onto the sidewalk in front of the business.”

A man was struck in the head and was transported to a local hospital in serious condition; the man’s father was also hit and received a laceration to his forearm.
