WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah, Jan. 8, 2019 (Gephardt Daily) — Two men were taken into custody late Monday night after one of them allegedly used a gun to threaten the owner of a stolen vehicle and then managed to break his leg in his haste to evade police.

Lt. Todd Gray, of the West Valley City Police Department, said the owner of the vehicle, which was stolen a few days earlier, saw the car driving down the street in West Valley.

“He challenged the suspect, and the suspect drew a gun and drove off,” Gray told Gephardt Daily.

Police later spotted the vehicle, and the driver sped away, leading officers on a very brief, three-block pursuit before he crashed into a parked car. At that point, he took off running into the night.

“He didn’t know where he was,” Gray said, “and he fell down some stairs in the backyard of a residence and broke his leg.”

The passenger in the stolen car was arrested for outstanding warrants.

Gray said the parked vehicle that was hit sustained only minor damage, but the car that was stolen will need some repair work.

The names of the suspects, who are both adult men, have not been released while charges are pending.
