WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah, Dec. 21, 2018 (Gephardt Day) — A suspect wanted in a series of West Valley City drive-by shooting attempts is in police custody.

Ty Coe, 19, was arrested late Thursday night after a game of cat and mouse with officers on the ground and in the DPS helicopter.

WVCPD Lt. Todd Gray told Gephardt Daily Coe was being sought in connection with a pair of Thursday drive-by shootings. The first happened around 11 a.m. near 3500 South 5600 West; the second took place about 4:30 p.m. at 3500 South 5400 West.

No one was injured in either incident, although witnesses were able to provide police with a license plate number and a vehicle description.

Police were on the lookout for the car throughout the night when it was spotted by a detective with Unified Police about 10:15 p.m.

UPD notified West Valley Police and surveillance efforts began on the ground and through the air.

Around 11:30 p.m. police managed to spike Coe’s tires during a brief chase which ended before midnight near 4100 South 4400 West.

According to Gray, Coe stepped from his car and surrendered without further incident. He said a search of the vehicle turned up a gun holster, but no weapon was found.

The pilot aboard the DPS STAR 9 UHP helicopter however directed cops to a location where he saw something thrown from the vehicle. Police soon searched the area and found a handgun at the scene.

Coe was booked into the Salt Lake County jail on charges of aggravated assault, felony discharge of a firearm, obstruction of justice and criminal mischief.

Gephardt Daily will update the story as more information becomes available.
