The adult suspect, Rujal Hassan Abdi, 21, has been booked on assault, disorderly conduct and protective order violation charges. The other suspect is 17 years old, and the relationship between the two is unknown at this time.

The incident began at the driver’s license division located at 2780 West 4700 South, when the older suspect became agitated and upset over not being allowed to obtain a driver’s license. A security guard tried to get the man to calm down but the fight ended up physical between the officer and the suspect.

According to witnesses, several people attempted to jump in and help and that is when the officer fired a shot into the ceiling in an attempt to regain control of the situation.

Officials said no-one was injured and no one else is in danger at this time.

Hassan Abdi, who said he felt disrespected by the security officer, was also there at the same time as an ex-girlfriend who had an active restraining order against the man.

The suspect was booked into the Salt Lake County Adult Detention Center on charges of disorderly conduct, assault and violation of a protective order.

Due to the other male being a juvenile, no other information on his arrest is available at this time.
