Armed man on the run after seen trying to start car with knife in SLC

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, Jan. 18, 2017 (Gephardt Daily) — Police are looking for a man armed with a handgun who was found by a Salt Lake resident Tuesday morning while attempting to start the victim’s vehicle with a knife.

The incident occurred at approximately 7:20 a.m. at 600 S. Elizabeth Street (between 1100 East and 1200 East), according to a news release from the Salt Lake City Police Department.

A resident went to his car to check on it because it had a previously broken window, and discovered a man trying to start his vehicle with a knife. The suspect grabbed the victim, pointed a handgun at him and demanded the keys to the car. The victim ran away but the suspect caught up with him and tackled him. The suspect then fled on foot.

The victim sustained minor injuries.

The suspect is described as a white man in his early 20s, approximately 5 feet 10 inches tall, with a skinny build and short blond hair. He was wearing a black coat with a hood, khaki colored pants and black shoes.
