WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah, March 12, 2017 (Gephardt Daily) — A police pursuit late Sunday night ended with a suspect in custody and a stolen vehicle recovered.
West Valley City Police Lt. Robert Hamilton said a patrol officer spotted a vehicle at 10:05 p.m. and ran the license plates. It turned out the Chevrolet Traverse had been reported stolen.
The officer followed the Traverse as more police responded to the area and put down spikes. Hamilton said when the officer turned on his lights and siren, the suspect fled and all four tires on the Traverse were spiked.
The suspect managed to drive a short distance beyond that, but was stopped at 4100 South and 3200 West when an officer performed a PIT maneuver.
Hamilton said the suspect, Michael Gallegos, 32, whose current address is in West Valley City, was taken into custody without incident at 10:10 p.m. and was booked into jail for more than $40,000 in warrants, vehicle theft and fleeing.
