Suspects flee on foot after allegedly stealing car in Salt Lake City

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, Dec. 3, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — A 19-year-old man and 18-year-old woman were booked into jail after police say they stole a vehicle then fled on foot into a Salt Lake City park Sunday afternoon.

A news release from the Salt Lake City Police Department said Marc Smith and Sarah Schoolcraft were booked into jail for possession of a stolen vehicle and fleeing.

The incident occurred in the area of Liberty Park just before 2 p.m., the news release said.

“A vehicle owner reported that he found his vehicle that had been stolen,” the news release said. “The vehicle was occupied by Marc Smith and Sarah Schoolcraft. The vehicle left the area before police arrived and was being followed by the owner.”

The vehicle was driving south on 700 East at about 1250 South when it was observed by a K-9 officer, who was traveling north on 700 East.

“The vehicle stopped abruptly when the driver saw the K-9 truck,” the news release said. “The occupants exited the vehicle and fled on foot into Liberty Park. The officer deployed his K-9 who was able to apprehend Smith. Officers caught up to Schoolcraft and placed her into custody.”
